Richard Edward Larson, (Dick) D.D.S, born August 19, 1920 in Park Rapids, Minnesota, died May 31, 2010, age 89 after a brief illness.
Richard is survived by wife of 67 years, Marjorie Lokensgard Larson, children Sandra (Robert) Thielen, Brenda (Gary) Reinholtz, Ward (Wendy) Larson, Jane Herrera , grandchildren Joel (Penny) Fuller, Ryan Fuller, Staci (Thor) Nelson, Grant (Pam) Johnson, Parker (Betsy) Larson, Lindsay (Erik) Abraham, Jaime (Tony) Carter-Piff, Drew Herrera, Trey Garfas, five great-grandchildren, brother Donald Larson of Richfield, MN.
Preceded in death by parents Dr. G. Edward Larson and Ruth Cassel Larson, sister June Larson Dinsmore.
Richard grew up in St. Peter. He attended St. Peter public schools, was a member of the class of ’42 at Gustavus Adolphus College and was graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1944 after which he served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He retired at the rank of major after active and reserve duty in the army. He practiced dentistry for 48 years, most of which were in St. Peter. Richard was active in the community serving in the Lions Club, was a life member of Masonic Nicollet Lodge #54, served on the St. Peter City Council and various Nicollet County planning commissions, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Shoreland Country Club. He was a lifetime Gustie Booster, member of the G-1000 Club, served 2 terms on the Gustavus Alumni Board, and was an active member of the Minnesota Dental Society. Richard enjoyed many years singing with the Riverblenders Barbershop Chorus. He and his wife were avid golfers. Dick took great pride in being one of the first Minnesota Vikings season ticket holders and, for many years, was the team dentist during the Vikings’ Mankato training camps. He remained a staunch fan all of his life.
After retirement Dick and Marge moved to Florida where they lived for the next 19 years enjoying days of golf. Dick continued to enjoy working with wood in his highly organized workshop. They returned to St. Peter in 2009 to be near family.
A memorial service was at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in St. Peter Minnesota. Visitation was held an hour before the service. Private interment. Suggested memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Gustavus Adolphus College.
