Professional Sculptor Jesse Ellerbroek of Black Lantern Studio in Norseland and Artist Shawn Johnson of Iowa created a snapping turtle snow sculpture for Winterfest 2010.
The sculpture is near the Chamber of Commerce at the intersection of Front and Broadway. A city crew used a front-end loader to place snow in the forms on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Johnson and Ellerbroek began carving it Frdiday afternoon, worked until midnight, and continued all day Saturday and into the night.
Winterfest 2010 in St. Peter kicks off with events on Friday, Feb. 5 and continues through Sunday, Feb. 14. The medallion hunt begins at 12:01 Saturday, Feb. 6. The finder will collect a cool $1,000 from the St. Peter Visitor and Tourism Bureau.
